About Us
In 2013, Kandy Samsundar established the Canadian Cultural Association of Durham with the goal of empowering marginalized communities to create a promising future by creating programs and events to cater to the communities’ needs.
Our Origins
Kandy Samsundar immigrated to Canada as an aspiring University of Toronto student from Trinidad & Tobago over 40 years ago. While growing up, she noticed marginalized communities’ struggles and decided to make a change by creating an organization to empower them. She saw the need to create a network of people from similar cultural backgrounds with a passion for serving and who strived to improve their community.
Throughout the years, CCCAD has facilitated several initiatives to get involved in the city to build diversity and inclusiveness, and we hope to carry these core values into the future.
Ms. Samsundar is immensely passionate about the issues of Caribbean communities living in Canada. She consistently looks for ways to strengthen their relationships and serve as a support network for the Caribbean community. Giving back to the community by volunteering and charitable donations and uniting all cultures is at the core of the vision she strives for CCCAD.
Our Mission
CCMA works to improve economic, financial, and enterprising capabilities with our funding partners, departments of education, school board, schools, educators, and teachers associates to develop and provide free, non-commercial programs and resources to the community – developed and reviewed by educators and business experts.
